Tinnitus and My Battle

Hello!

If you are reading this blog then I will assume you have some interest in Tinnitus - either for yourself or a loved one! I started this blog in the hopes of supplying information to others about my trials and tribulations with my Tinnitus in hopes you can use the information in your quest to "quiet" the world! I have found Tinnitus to be an issue - the longer it goes on the more it interferes with my life! My Tinnitus seems to be getting worse as time goes by - almost to the point where it interferes with sleep sometimes when it is really kicking up!

First, let me state I am NOT a doctor or a medical professional in any manner, state or form. All of the information I have posted here is personally researched in my spare time. My skills lay more in technically difficult aspects of computer security and networking - which is about a far removed from medical science as you normally get. My interests in Tinnitus are strictly personal! I have Tinnitus and really want to get rid of it! Hopefully you find the information and links contained here helpful!!!

I will list all of my efforts to rid myself of this affliction - I am taking this task on as three different medical professionals (read: Doctors) have basically told me they can not do much of anything for me and I have to just accept it and live with it. Well - to that I say "HELL NO". I will find relief from this affliction so I may lead a normal and productive life!!!

OK - you have an idea that I am a Tinnitus sufferer - and if you are reading this blog then most likely you also suffer from this affliction too (or know someone who does). How do we find relief from this constant buzzing, chirping, ringing, (insert type of Tinnitus here) we are experiencing? That is the purpose of this blog - to try and find answers to that very question!

Well - I think at this point there needs to be a little explanation of 'what' it is I am attacking! Tinnitus, or 'ringing in the ears', is a sensation of noise in the ears without an external stimulation of sound. Contrary to common opinion I have found that Tinnitus is not actually a disease but rather a symptom of an underlying problem or disease.

From my readings I have also found that Tinnitus is also associated with some form of hearing loss. Given the way Tinnitus affects hearing that makes perfect sense to me. As to the causes of Tinnitus - from my research I have found them to be very diverse and no common treatment for this affliction exists today in modern medicine. One of the first things I have discovered is that almost everyone is getting ripped off by the drug and pharmaceutical companies and people preying on unsuspecting sufferers trying to relieve the Tinnitus. The bulk of the Tinnitus and drug industries are filled with 'snake oil' marketing vampires that are getting rich by preying on your desperation. This is the basic reason I am posting information on this blog about Tinnitus.

Since Tinnitus is a symptom of an underlying issue it is very important you track down the underlying cause otherwise you will not be successful in removing the Tinnitus effects. The 'best' you can hope for is to just get temporary relief from "masking" the underlying cause of the Tinnitus instead of correcting the actual problem(s). The "Band aid Effect" as I call it - covers the actual issue. Just using a "shotgun" approach to finding a cure for your Tinnitus can become quite expensive and yield little or no results for you - you will only get more depressed and possibly increase the effects of the Tinnitus if stress and depression are the root cause!

Tinnitus, Turning the Volume Down: Proven Strategies for Quieting the Noise in Your Head

Some of the more common causes of Tinnitus include:

  • Extensive exposure to loud sounds - Loud music or machinery can be the cause for Tinnitus due to the damaging effects they can have on the inner-ear and nerves.
  • Ear Infections - ear infections can cause permanent damage to the inner-ear and nerves so can be a cause for Tinnitus
  • Certain drugs - Aspirin is one drug that has an affect on blood flow (thins the blood) and can be a cause for Tinnitus.
  • Diseases such as Hypertension, Diabetes, Meniere's Syndrome, Atherosclerosis, Thyroid disorders, etc.
  • Normal aging process - as you get older you can develop issues with blood flow, this in turn can translate into Tinnitus.
  • Stress, Depression - The quiet Killers (in more ways than one) Stress and/or Depression can (and do) cause all sorts of health issues, one of which manifests itself as some form of Tinnitus.
  • Allergies - Some allergies such as food allergies can be the root cause of Tinnitus.
Once the underlying cause of the Tinnitus has been determined usually there is a method or methods to reduce or completely relieve the symptoms by addressing the actual problem. The problem may be as simple to correct as identifying foods that you are allergic to so you can avoid them to as complex as underlying high blood pressure or worse. Until you figure out the root cause or causes you will not be able to reduce or eliminate the Tinnitus symptoms.

If you have Tinnitus syptoms, besides the more conventional causes, it is possible that your Tinnitus could be related to severe ear infection.  Moreover, there are few cases of Tinnitus that are directly invovled with such issues as aneurysm or brain tumor (acustic tumer).  Failing to correctly diagnose and treat infections or problems in your brain on time can cause serious long-term health consequences.  Do NOT just think that Tinnitus is a condition you can "just live with" as it is possible you will not!
